The Volusia County Chapter of the Florida Federation of Teenage Republicans is making preparations to be a force in the 2008 political campaigns.
Interested in politics for as long as he can remember, John Pehr, 14, a freshman at Atlantic High School, already is working hard to get the word out about the group.
The Sept. 8 meeting of the county chapter will be at 11 a.m. at the University of Phoenix, 1540 Cornerstone Blvd., Daytona Beach.
"The Volusia County Chapter is open to 13- to 18-year-old students who are enrolled in public and private school, as well as those who are home schooled," Pehr said. "Our chapter has the goal to involve teens in state and national level political issues and events."

Kudos to Jim Greer for sticking up for the Sunshine State.
Greer, who heads Florida's Republican Party, recommended last week that the state send its entire delegation to the party's national convention next year in Minneapolis. The state's GOP executive committee went along, even though the national Republican Party has warned Florida it may lose half of its delegates after the state bumped up its 2008 presidential primary to Jan. 29.
The threat, similar to one the national Democratic Party has issued to Florida's Democrats, is hypocritical. What, it's OK for both parties' presidential candidates and fund-raisers to traverse the Sunshine State in search for cash, but it's not OK for Floridians to move up their primary so their voices and votes can be heard and counted?

Politics has come a long way: No longer the stuff of smoky, cigar-filled back rooms or pristine putting greens, the American political landscape has metamorphisized into a world in which the Republican community is becoming actively involved like never before through interactive websites like YouTube, TechRepublican, and MySpace.
The Republican Party of Florida has embraced this world of new media as a way to reach out to voters and share our message of lower taxes, less government, and more freedom.

Tallahassee Democrat - August 16, 2007
The most important thing to come out of the state Republican Party meeting last weekend was not the decision to send a full delegation to Minnesota next year and dare the national party to enforce rules that penalize Florida for throwing an early presidential primary.

Christine Jennings promoted herself to voters as a no-nonsense banker with a meticulous eye for financial detail.
After decades as a trusted banker, she would carefully manage taxpayer money and "play by the rules," the Democrat told voters in campaign ads and mailers for the 13th Congressional District.
But in managing her two campaigns for Congress, a different image has emerged: one in which federal tax dollars were not sent to the government, financial record keeping was spotty, critical paperwork was misfiled and checks got lost in the mail.
They are mistakes usually better associated with a struggling small business than with the president of a profitable bank that had $164 million in assets and 22 employees when it was sold in 2003.

RPOF Press Release - August 11, 2007
Tallahassee— Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer announced today that the RPOF is establishing statewide leadership advisory councils to reach out to African American, Hispanic and Jewish communities in Florida. The advisory councils will be tasked with building broad-based coalitions and advising the Chairman Greer on issues of interest to these voters.
“We have created a department with the sole purpose of expanding on the vote that Governor Crist received in the African American community during the 2006 gubernatorial election,” explained Chairman Greer. “I have appointed a director and staff members because I know that if we can continue to expand our performance in the African American Community as well as the Hispanic community, there is no way a Democrat carries Florida. It is just that simple.”

RPOF Press Release - August 06, 2007
Destin—Tonight former President Bill Clinton is heading to Destin, Florida to raise cash for his wife, Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. Recent media reports have highlighted that Hillary is trying to run on her husband's White House record at the same time that she is being pushed by the ultra-liberal left wing of her party to turn and run away.
“While Hillary Clinton is trying to evoke memories of her husband's administration, she's simultaneously moving further to the left and pandering to the liberal wing of her party,” said Republican Party of Florida Chairman Jim Greer. “Floridians want leaders who have a vision for the future—not Hillary Clinton's mantra that America's best days are behind us.”
